India Celebrating Hindi Divas- Know More About The Word “Hindi”

“Hindi is a language that works towards connecting the country” said Union Home Minister rajnath singh while addressing  Hindi Diwas celebration 2018.

“ Hindi Diwas” is an annual day celebrated on 14th September across the country(India). Mostly it is sponsored by government in central government offices, schools, firms and other institutions.

On 14th September 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India had adopted Hindi written in Devanagari script as the official language of the Republic of India. It serves to promote and propagate the Hindi language. Its importance is demonstrated by feasts, events, competitions and other services held on this day. The event also serves as a patriotic reminder to Indian populations of their common roots and unity.

14th September 1949 was the 50th Birthday of Hindi Scholar and Stalwart Beohar Rajendra Simha, the effort came to fruition following Hindi as India’s Official Language from a total of 22 scheduled languages of the country.

Hindi Language Facts

Hindi got its name from the Persian word Hind meaning the “land of the Indus river” . Urdu is considered its sister language and Sanskrit is the mother of Hindi.

Chandrakanta, written by Devaki Nandan Khatri in 1888, is the first prose in modern Hindi.

Rani ketki ki kahani by Munshi Insha Allah Khan, Prem Sagar by Lallu Lal, Nasiketopakhyan by Sadal Mishra , first writers of Hindi.

Hindi’s first web portal came into existence in 2000.

The features of this language include 33 consonants and 11 vowels. The Hindi alphabetical table is often called Varnmala which means Garland of letters.

Hindi is different from the words of English .All the nouns of the Hindi language have genders, either masculine or feminine gender. Both adjective as well as verbs are drastically altered according to gender.
