‘Junk food’ ingestion in India a developing concern in rural areas, research declares. Nevertheless, data on junk food intake in rural areas has been inadequate. As such, researchers at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences performed a study to approach junk food consumption. “Lack of proper sleep hitched with increased alcohol and smoke intake also affects the intestinal system and blood pressure thereby developing the risk aspects for heart disease. Increased ingestion of junk food along with absence of exercise can raise a cholesterol level that guises a great threat to the heart health” Said Dr K K Talwar, Chairman, Cardiology, Max Healthcare.

“33 per cent Women eat unhealthy food at night more than men which are 29 per cent. Also, more women have bizarre eating habits at 29 per cent, as compared to men 20 cent,” the study said. The study also claimed that 44 per cent women smoke more than men i.e. 32 per cent.

Approach and behaviors toward eating are shaped by factors including psychological factors and stress. Stress is one of a factor which may affect behaviors and health especially when an individual faces challenges that surpass his or her coping resources. Due partially to increase levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, stressed people tend to crave foods high in fat, sugar, and salt. Many will look for potato chips, ice cream or other junk foods after a rough day.

Poor eating habits include under or over-eating, not absorbing enough healthy foods every day, or consuming too much of one type of food or drink, which are low in fiber or high in fat, salt, or sugar. Unhealthy eating habits and laziness affect quality of life and cause disability. Few recognize that unhealthy diet is a leading cause of disability. Unhealthy eating habits and physical inactivity are leading causes of loss of independence; Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness and abstractions.

To be Healthy Start each day with a nutritious breakfast, Get 7 hours of sleep at night, as lethargy can lead to overeating. Eat your meals seated at a table, without distractions.
